These are some more shots of my Tour to Europe in Sept – Nov 2012. I has been a while since I last saw them.. great to be able to catch up on them at last!

This was my last day of the Cosmos Tour Oct 17, 2012 Spain. After my morning trip to Toledo our last afternoon of the Cosmos tour was a coach tour of the sights of Madrid.

The Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas is a famous bullring in Madrid (Spain).

Situated in the Guindalera quarter of the district of Salamanca, it was inaugurated on June 17, 1931. It has a seating capacity of 25,000 and is regarded as the home of bullfighting in Spain.

This bullring was designed by the architect José Espeliú in the Neo-Mudéjar (Moorish) style with ceramic incrustations. The seats are situated in ten "tendidos". The price of the seats depends upon how close they are to the arena and whether they are in the sun or the shade (the latter being more expensive). The bullfighting season starts in March and ends in October; bullfights are held every day during the San Isidro Fiesta, and every Sunday or holiday during the season. Bullfights start at 6 or 7pm and last for two to three hours.

The capital of Spain since 1562, is located at the geographic center of the Iberian Peninsula.Because of its central location and high altitude, the climate of Madrid is characterized by warm dry summers and cool winters.

Madrid is a city of great monuments. Among its highlights are the medieval center dating back to the Habsburg Empire and the Prado Museum.

It is also a lively metropolis with many pubs, cafes, discotheques and nightclubs open late into the night.

Art and culture play a key role in Madrid’s cultural life. The capital has over 60 museums which cover every field of human knowledge. Highlights include the Prado Museum, one of the world’s most important art galleries; the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, with over 800 paintings ranging from primitive Flemish artists through to the avant-garde movements. And the Reina Sofía National Art Centre, dedicated to contemporary Spanish art and containing works by Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí and Juan Gris, among others.
